B&B Antico Borgo - Caramanico Terme - Abruzzo

Caramanico Terme
Located at the junction beetween the splendid Orfento canyon and the Orta river valley, Caramanico is being the symbol of thermal cures in Abruzzo for at least 25 years.
According to the legend should even be Carlo Magno's nephew, the "monaco Caro", to found the town during the 980. It was a longobard outpost, then D'Acquino's feud, who guided the village to its best developement.
Inside the historic centre, which preserves some of the ancient citywalls, rise eighteenth century palaces, elegant fountains with spouts, votive aedicules and the wonderful churches of San Domenico and San Nicola.
Recommended for visiting is the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, with a magnificent gothic portal.
Caramanico has the value to unify its historical thermal vocation with the wonderful naturalistic scenario in which it rises. Located in the valley that divides the mountain Morrone from the Maiella, inside the Orfento natural Reserve, (recommended to visit the Naturalistic Museum Paolo Barrasso), a wild nature strip, dominated from rich beech-trees, where now live deers, roe-bucks, wolves, the marsican bears and the golden eagle.
The beauty of the landscape is incredible, drawn by the river Orfento. This mystic landscape was loved by monastics and heremits who founded here churches and suggestive hermitages, inserted inside the Maiella.
